Friend and friendship
Not much time being spent in the garden today as it has been trying to rain on and off most of the morning.
I am also trying to work out how to safely groom out big, grumpy cat - Honey - who is in mega need of a clean up around her backside! I may have to resort to the welding gloves we keep for putting logs on the fire. Nothing else else would do but don’t want to freak her out even more, so she is having to stay outside and moan at us through the window.
I overdid it again in the garden yesterday, but I found myself musing about friendship. I have never been a great one for leaping from acquaintance to best of friends, it’s just not me. My nomadic upbringing may have something to do with it.
I have sometimes come across a person who has kept in in touch with school friends for 50 to 60 years and feel a certain amount of respect for them.
This all led to me thinking about people I class as friends and who I have known for a long time:
my younger sister Sue who was born when I was six and left this life behind 18 months ago
my friend Karen who is in England - met some 30 something years ago and will always be there for each other
my daughter Rebecca who lives in Hastings and over the years has become a great daughter and hope I have developed into a great mum
my husband Martin. He has seen me through the last couple of years above and beyond the call of duty. I bet he didn’t realise what he was signing up to when we met 18 years ago. Thank you honey.
That’s about it really and I must say I count myself lucky. I have met a few people since we have been in Cyprus who seem to be on the lookout for ‘friends’, my idea is it takes years to get to that stage in most cases.
One last thing before I go, today is another Frock up Friday. If you haven’t heard of them it is a Facebook page set up a few weeks ago by a couple of women in Hastings to cheer people up during lockdown. Dress up, glam up, post a photo on the page and see what other people are talking about. From about six people to start they now have over 12,000 members worldwide! Give it a go.
See you soon.
